VP of Corporate Finance — Growth-Stage Robotics & Automation Company
Location — Tokyo, Japan
A venture-backed robotics and automation technology company is seeking a VP of Corporate Finance to join its corporate team in Tokyo. This is a senior individual contributor and leadership role, responsible for driving the company's corporate financing strategy, capital structure decisions and investor relationships as the business continues to grow.
About the Role
Reporting to the CFO, you will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to shape financial strategy, lead fundraising processes and ensure the company is positioned effectively with its investor base.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and execute corporate financing strategy, including equity and debt financing rounds, from initial structuring through to close
• Develop and maintain relationships across the investor base, covering venture capital, private equity, institutional and strategic corporate investors
• Build and manage a target investor pipeline aligned to the company's strategic direction and capital requirements
• Prepare and present investor materials including pitch decks, financial models, term sheets and due diligence documentation
• Partner with the product and business teams to evaluate the financial and strategic rationale for business development opportunities, partnerships and M&A
• Provide ongoing investor relations support, managing communications, reporting and alignment between investors and corporate strategy
• Support the CFO and senior leadership on long-range financial planning, capital allocation and treasury matters
• Contribute to the build-out of the corporate finance function as the company scales
Qualifications
• 8+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, venture capital or a related field; prior experience leading or co-leading fundraising processes is strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree from a top-tier university; MBA or CFA is an advantage
• Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English is required
• Strong modelling, valuation and accounting skills; comfortable with complex financial structures and term sheet negotiations
• Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with sophisticated investors and senior internal stakeholders
• Analytical, first-principles thinker with a bias for action; comfortable operating with ambiguity in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment
What Makes You Stand Out
• Prior experience in a corporate finance or investor relations role at a technology company or growth-stage startup
• An existing network among institutional investors, strategic corporates or venture funds active in Japan or APAC
• A track record of closing equity financing rounds as a lead or significant contributor
• Experience with cross-border transactions or investors spanning Japan and international markets
