A global multi-manager hedge fund is building out its Asian convertible arbitrage coverage and hiring a dedicated Asia resource in Hong Kong. The role sits within an established convertible arbitrage strategy on the platform, alongside its existing US book.

About the Role

You will be the strategy's presence in Asia, working directly with the US-based portfolio manager who runs it. Coverage centres on Japan and Taiwan convertibles, with scope across broader APAC where the opportunity set justifies it.

This is a full-time seat on the ground in Hong Kong, not regional coverage run from elsewhere. You will own the Asian session: monitoring the book, sourcing and analysing ideas across the regional convertible universe, and feeding the PM the work and market colour the US day cannot generate. The team currently runs with one junior analyst focused on US names, so this is the first dedicated Asian resource and carries the breadth that comes with it.

The scope of the seat is deliberately flexible and will be shaped around the person hired, including the path to running a dedicated sub-book.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cover the Asian convertible universe, with a primary focus on Japan and Taiwan and scope across broader APAC
  • Generate and analyse convertible arbitrage ideas, working across the equity, volatility and credit components of each position
  • Monitor the book and the regional market through the Asian session, and act as the strategy's eyes in the region
  • Work closely with the US-based portfolio manager across time zones on positioning, risk and new opportunities
  • Track new issuance, dealer flow and market structure across regional convertible markets
  • Build toward managing a dedicated sub-book, with allocation shaped around your experience and track record

Requirements

  • A successful track record in convertible bonds, gained on either the sell side or the buy side
  • Coverage of Japanese and Taiwanese convertibles is strongly preferred; genuinely strong coverage of other Asian markets will also be considered
  • Fluency across the equity, volatility and credit legs of a convertible position, and the analytical rigour to underwrite them
  • Comfortable operating as the sole regional presence, self-directed and able to work productively across time zones
  • Based in Hong Kong or willing to relocate

Seniority is open. The firm will consider a junior sell-side convertible trader, a more senior sell-side professional, an experienced buy-side analyst, or a sub-PM already running risk. The filter is demonstrated ability in convertibles, not years served.
