A long-established global relative value hedge fund is seeking a convertible bonds trader to support the execution and day-to-day running of its Asian convertible arbitrage book. Convertible arbitrage is the firm's founding strategy and sits alongside credit and equity relative value mandates managed from the US and Europe.
About the Role
The role is execution-led. Working directly with the firm's Chief Investment Officer, who built and continues to manage the Asia strategy, you will handle trading and execution across the Asian convertible portfolio, manage hedges and monitor risk on the ground in the region.
It is a first Asia seat rather than a role within an established regional team, so it carries breadth beyond pure execution: market intelligence, dealer relationships and the practical build-out of the firm's trading footprint in Asia. As you bed in, the expectation is that you take on more risk opportunistically, with scope to grow into greater portfolio responsibility over time.
The firm runs a single-book, single-team model per strategy rather than a multi-manager pod structure: no eat-what-you-kill allocation, no automatic drawdown triggers, and a long record of manager tenure.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute across the Asian convertible book, including primary and secondary convertibles, and the related equity, equity derivative and credit hedges
- Manage delta, vega and credit hedges intraday, and monitor portfolio risk during the Asian session
- Build and maintain dealer relationships across the regional street, sourcing paper and improving execution quality
- Provide the CIO with regional market colour, new-issue flow and relative value observations that feed idea generation
- Support the practical build-out of the firm's Asian trading and operating infrastructure
- Take on risk opportunistically as familiarity with the book grows
Qualifications
- Convertible bond trading or execution experience gained at a hedge fund or on a bank's convertible arbitrage or equity derivatives desk
- Strong working knowledge of the Asian convertible universe across Japan, Greater China and the wider region, with fluency in the equity, volatility and credit components of a convertible position
- Sharp execution instincts, disciplined risk habits and established relationships across the regional dealer community
- Self-sufficient and comfortable operating as a one-person regional presence, without the support structure of an established local team
- The ambition and judgement to take on risk over time; the firm views convex arbitrage as closer to equity derivatives than to fixed income and welcomes candidates from either background
A rare chance to trade an established, well-capitalised Asian convertible book from the outset, inside a firm known for strategy longevity, and with a genuine path to taking risk.
