A recently launched fundamental long/short hedge fund is hiring a Head of Operations, reporting directly to the founder and Chief Investment Officer.

About the Firm

The fund launched roughly a year ago and runs a global mandate with a fundamental long/short approach, managing assets in the low hundreds of millions of US dollars. The team is deliberately small, and this hire is one of its first senior appointments.

About the Role

This is a genuinely hands-on operations seat, not a supervisory one. You will own the fund's operational function end to end and do the work yourself, from daily processing through to month-end close.

Reporting to the CIO, you will be responsible for daily reconciliation, trade booking, fund-level NAV calculation and the month-end NAV process, alongside the broader operational infrastructure of a young fund: broker and administrator relationships, cash and collateral management, trade lifecycle and settlement, and the controls and processes that need building as the business grows.

This is not a fundraising or investor relations role. The mandate is operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own daily reconciliation across positions, cash and P&L
  • Handle trade booking and the full trade lifecycle through to settlement
  • Produce fund-level NAV calculations and run the month-end NAV process with the administrator
  • Manage relationships with the fund's administrator, prime brokers, custodians and counterparties
  • Build out and maintain operational processes, controls and reporting appropriate to a growing fund
  • Support the CIO on the operational, regulatory and administrative side of running the business
  • Take on the range of tasks a two-person firm generates, without needing them defined in advance

Requirements

  • Operational experience at a hedge fund or asset manager, at a level of seniority appropriate to owning the function outright; this is a Head of Operations seat rather than an operations director stepping up
  • Genuine hands-on capability across reconciliation, bookings and NAV, and the willingness to do that work daily rather than oversee it
  • Familiarity with fund administration, prime brokerage and the trade lifecycle in a long/short equity context
  • A real appetite for a startup environment, with the resourcefulness that a two-person team demands
  • Based in Hong Kong and able to work full time from the office
  • A licence is not required at the outset; the fund is comfortable supporting an application later
