The Asia direct-investment arm of a global investment fund is hiring an equity capital markets investment manager into its Hong Kong office. The team invests across growth equity, private equity and venture capital, is small and entrepreneurial, and is backed by long-duration capital. Immediate start.
About the Role
You source the companies and financing opportunities worth backing. The work begins in equity capital markets: building deep relationships with the banks and brokers who captain ECM deals across Asia-Pacific by being genuinely useful to them. That means catalyzing deals, giving timely and independent feedback, managing expectations early, and helping transactions close predictably and with integrity. It is steady work that compounds over time, and it rewards judgement over bravado.
Some of those relationships lead to privately negotiated investments in listed companies, where flexible, long-duration capital matters most. You do not need to have done these deals before. If you have worked on convertibles, equity-linked deals or corporate derivatives, you already understand the building blocks, and the team will teach you the rest.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with issuer founders and management teams, institutional partners, bankers and brokers, across both Asia-direct channels and international capital markets syndicates
- Work with the wider investment team, bankers and brokers across the full range of deals, from regular-way ECM to privately negotiated investments
- Run diligence on target companies, including management meetings, site visits, sector and credit analysis and market research, to judge each opportunity and assess its risks
- Execute transactions from the investor's side of the table: wall-crosses, NDAs, negotiation, structuring, closing and post-investment support
- Prepare rigorous, well-supported analysis and presentations for founders, management teams and internal discussion
- Monitor market trends and developments to spot new opportunities and stay ahead of industry change
Requirements
- Around seven years or more in equity capital markets, investment banking or a closely related field, with a real track record of sourcing, negotiating and executing deals; depth and quality of experience count for more than years served
- A mind that thinks in instruments and structures rather than single-period valuation multiples: fluency in at least one of convertibles or equity-linked securities, options or corporate derivatives, or other structured-equity instruments, and the ability to see how a structure shifts risk and reward between a company and its investors
- Direct relationships with company management, investor relations teams, and the banks and brokers who run deals across Asia
- A close read of market consensus, with the confidence to offer independent, rational judgements even when they are unpopular
- Strong analytical skills, and the care to read financial statements and legal documents closely
- Fluent English, the working language; fluency in one or more additional regional languages relevant to Asia-Pacific markets is advantageous, and language skills are assessed against the needs of the role
- Bloomberg, Excel and PowerPoint, and fluency in using AI tools to work more productively and creatively
- A degree in finance, economics, engineering or a related discipline; a JD, MBA or CPA is a plus
- Experience of PIPEs, private placements or other privately negotiated investments is useful but not required
- An interest in technology, biotech or another high-growth industry
What the Firm Offers
- Structured, principal investing taught on the job; several of the team came from the sell side and learned it here, mentored by people who have done it for decades
- Contribution valued over hours: the measure is what you sourced, judged, taught and turned into workflows that build the business
- Real influence over how a small, entrepreneurial Asia team works, with the resources and stability of an established firm behind it
