A newly launched Pan-Asia long-only equity fund is seeking its first investment partner. The fund launches this autumn with roughly US$200m of anchor capital on a three-year lock-up, provided by a leading US growth investor and a top-tier US university endowment, and charges full institutional fees.
About the Role
You will join the founder and Chief Investment Officer as the first senior investment hire and the second investment professional in the firm. The CIO covers TMT and consumer; your mandate is everything outside them, with industrials, hardware and structural growth themes the priority. Coverage is Pan-Asia, with China primary and Japan and Korea secondary.
The CIO makes the final call and owns portfolio risk. Within that, this is a genuine partnership seat rather than an analyst role: you will be involved in every investment decision on your coverage, and there is scope to run a dedicated sleeve as the platform develops.
This is a firm at inception. The private and venture track record is established and strong; the public equity record is being built from launch. The right person wants to build that record rather than inherit one.
Key Responsibilities
- Own idea generation and underwriting across industrials, hardware and structural growth outside TMT and consumer
- Build high-conviction, long-duration positions suited to sticky capital and a three-year lock-up
- Work directly with the CIO on portfolio construction, sizing and risk debate
- Represent the strategy credibly to a sophisticated global institutional investor base
- Help build the firm's research process, infrastructure and eventual team
Requirements
- Public equity buy-side experience at a respected fund, or a private equity background with genuine, demonstrable public markets exposure and appetite
- Evidence of real involvement in live investment decisions under a genuinely strong investor, rather than coverage or support work alone
- Credible capability in industrials, hardware or structural growth themes; TMT and consumer specialists are not the fit
- Fluent English essential, Mandarin strongly preferred, Japanese or Korean an advantage
- Presence and communication quality to hold a room with global institutional investors
- Entrepreneurial temperament, intellectual curiosity and analytical flexibility; someone who wants to build a firm rather than join a machine
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, Hong Kong or Shanghai
Compensation is highly competitive at the senior end of the market and includes meaningful participation in the carry pool. Details are discussed directly.
