A global multi-strategy investment firm is hiring a Korea-focused analyst into its Asia-Pacific team. This is a single hire reporting directly to a senior investor in the region.

About the Role

The mandate is to find what other people cannot: off-the-beaten-path opportunities in Korea, sourced through your own network and your own legwork rather than through brokers or auction processes. The firm already covers Korea's large-cap technology names. This role is deliberately not that. It exists to surface the clubby, locally negotiated, relationship-driven situations that only reach investors with genuine ground-level access.

Coverage is across asset classes: public equity, private transactions, convertible bonds, and credit and special situations. You are not expected to arrive with experience in all of them. The firm intends to train you across strategies you have not touched, and the senior investor you report to will mentor you intensively through the first years.

The base is Hong Kong, with the expectation of very substantial time in Korea, potentially four to five months cumulatively each year. There is no plan for a licensed Korean office; you will travel on extended trips from Hong Kong and work from serviced space in Seoul when on the ground. For the right candidate, another regional base may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source proprietary investment opportunities across Korea through your own professional network, ahead of and outside intermediated processes
  • Originate and analyse ideas across public equity, private transactions, convertible bonds, and credit and special situations
  • Spend extended periods on the ground in Korea, building and maintaining the relationships that produce deal flow
  • Underwrite opportunities and present them to the investment committee
  • Work closely with a senior investor on diligence, structuring and execution, and develop breadth across asset classes over time

Requirements

  • Approximately five to seven years of investment experience; strong candidates slightly below this range will be considered
  • A deep, active professional network across the Korean financial market, built through your own career there, and the instinct to use it
  • Fluent Korean, with enough confident English to present and defend an investment case to an investment committee
  • Demonstrable intellectual horsepower, work ethic and integrity
  • A scrappy, entrepreneurial disposition: a self-starter who can operate independently, without senior coverage alongside you on the ground
  • Willingness to be based in Hong Kong while spending very significant time in Korea

Background is deliberately open. Candidates from credit and special situations, private equity, public equity long/short and elsewhere are all in scope. A track record of proprietary sourcing is welcome but not required. The firm's view is that it can teach the asset class; it cannot teach the disposition.
